Dakshin Vrindavan began when a six-month-old bull calf was saved from butchers. From that frail beginning we have grown into a gausadan that holds 800 cows, bulls, and calves — funded entirely by donations, run entirely by volunteers.

Bringing back the tradition of cow protection
Cows are known to be the most beloved companions of Lord Krishna, the cowherd or Go-Pala. Following him, our forefathers adopted protecting and serving cows as an integral part of our culture and tradition. The corrupting influence of Kaliyuga has rendered cows and bulls destitute and hapless.

Our lifetime promise: Any cow or bull admitted to our gaushala is never sent outside — we promise them lifetime accommodation, and we keep our promise.

It began with one calf
A six-month-old bull calf was saved from being sold to butchers. That single rescue became a lifelong promise.

A herd takes shape
As word spread, more cows arrived — from illegal transports, road accidents, and abandonment. None were ever turned away.

Formal registrations in India and the USA let supporters give tax-free, and our books were opened to independent audit.

Towards a permanent home
With donor support, land was secured for a permanent gausadan in Eruthempathy, Kerala. Sheds and pastures are under construction.

Are cows bred in Dakshin Vrindavan?
Ours is a Gausadan; we prefer to rescue more cows from slaughter than to add increasing mouths to feed by breeding. There are many cows who still need to be saved.
Do you milk the cows?
No. Since we don't breed, there is no question of milk. We do admit pregnant cows — in which case we never milk the cow and the calf gets the entire share of mother's milk. To feed rescued young calves, we often buy milk from the market.
Do you ever send cows away?
Never. Any cow or bull admitted to Dakshin Vrindavan is never sent outside — we promise them lifetime accommodation and protection, and we keep our promise.
Can we visit the Gausadan?
You are most welcome any day between 9 AM and 5 PM — including holidays and Sundays. We would be more than happy to host you and introduce our cows and bulls to you and your family.
How do you save cows from slaughterhouses?
We buy the cows who are on route to slaughter — mostly old cows, young bulls, and cows with reduced milk production — through our "Save a Cow" program, and bring them to Dakshin Vrindavan for a lifetime home.
