Saving Cows & Providing Shelter

Our History

Dakshin Vrindavan started when a bull calf of 6 months was saved from being sold off to butchers. The team comprises of volunteers who find time from their day jobs to run the Gausadan. From that frail bull in 2013 we have grown to be a Gausadan that now holds 314 cows, bulls, and calves.

Till now we are functioning in a rental facility and We plan to build permanent home for the cows on a land we have chosen for the same. Land has been purchased and shed construction is in progress

Our Mission

Cows are known to be the most beloved companions of the Lord Krishna, the cowherd or Go-Pala. Following him, our forefathers adopted protecting and serving cows as an integral part of our culture and tradition. However, the corrupting influence of Kaliyuga has blemished these traditions and rendered cows and bulls, destitute and hapless. Bringing back the tradition of cow protection is our mission.

What we do

Our Activities

Rescue cows from Slaughter

Many cows as young as one day old are slaughtered for the pleasure of humans. We rescue cows from such slaughterhouse which are illegal (Most of the slaughterhouses are illegal in India), we purchase the cows from butchers to save the cows and provide them with permanent home in our Gausadan.

Rescue cows from illegal transport

Many cows as young as one day old are slaughtered for the pleasure of humans. We rescue cows from such slaughterhouse which are illegal (Most of the slaughterhouses are illegal in India), we purchase the cows from butchers to save the cows and provide them with permanent home in our Gausadan.

save abandoned Street cows

Many cows are left out in the streets when they are dry. They are left to forage in garbage heaps and most often end up eating plastic. We rescue such cows and provide them a dignified life.

Rescue cows injured in Vehicular accidents

Today the biggest threat to cows is man!. Reckless drivers injure cows and bulls in the streets which are often left to die. Most of them get admitted into our Gaushala with fractures and deadly injuries.

Rumenotomy Surgery to remove plastic from stomach

Street cows are forced to eat junks like plastic, scrubbers, purse etc.  For such cows, a surgery called “rumenotony“ is performed by qualified surgeon. We removed 53 kg of plastic from one of our rescued cows

FAQ

Have more questions?

Are cows bred in Dakshin Vrindavan ?

Ours is a Gausadan, we prefer to rescue more cows from slaughter than given increasing mouths to feed inside the gaushala by breeding. There are many cows who need to be saved from slaughter.

Do you milk the cows?

No, since we don’t breed, there is no question of milk. But we do admit pregnant cows, in which case, we never milk the cows and the calf gets the entire share of mother’s milk. To feed rescued young calves, we often buy milk from market.

Do you send out cows or hand over to someone else?

We don’t send the cows or bulls outside. Any cow or bull who gets admitted to Dakshin Vridnavan is never sent outside, we promise them lifetime accommodation and protection and we keep our promise.

Can we visit the Gausadan?

You are most welcome to visit the Gausadan anyday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.. We are open on holydays and Sundays as well. We would be more than happy to host you and introduce our cows and bull to you and your family.

How do you save cows from slaughterhouses?

The modus operandi have been to buy the cows who are on route to slaughter. Mostly old cows, young bulls, and the cows with less milk production are sent to slaughter. We purchase them through our “save a cow” program and bring them to Dakshin Vrindavan to provide them a home.
